What is SØNK?

The Danish vocal group SØNK consists of eight singers forming a mixed-voiced septet added human beatbox. The group is dedicated to be in sync with contemporary pop and R&B melodies with a sound deeply influenced by the bright Scandinavian timbre. SØNK aims to be an acknowledged, high-profile vocal group in the field of contemporary a cappella music.

Meet the singers

1st soprano
Cæcilie
Uhre Karlsson

Cæcilie grew up in a home full of music and at a very early age developed an exceptional understanding of vocal music notably as a singer in Vocal Line. Cæcilie has a master degree in musicology and is the former chairwoman of SYNG. Her devotion to spreading the joy of singing is so strong that she spearheaded the renowned project Stemmer Bygger Bro, which takes place during the Aarhus Festival.

2nd soprano
Sofie
Heidemann Augustesen

Early 2018, Sofie rounded up seven good friends and established SØNK. After several years of being part of the choir scene in Aarhus, Sofie handpicked the people that would make SØNK sound exactly as she wanted. Sofie is the queen of pop flourishes that she happily hands out in SØNK as well as Vocal Line. She holds a master degree in musicology and has been a board member for SYNG for many years.

1st alto
Rikke
Jepsen

Rikke is the master of harmonies and has a knack for writing beautiful rhythmical choir arrangements - a skill she developed already as a young musician. Rikke has a master degree in musicology and has loads of experience teaching both young and mature choir singers - she is the current conductor of the Fællesklang Aarhus. Rikke is a talented singer of both SØNK and Vocal Line and has been temporarily singing in Postyr.

2nd alto
Maria
Bjerre Linnemann

Charismatic and always a hoot, Maria is in her prime when sending out her resonant low notes. She is an elementary school teacher and has a master degree in journalism. Maria has tons of experience teaching music to the enrollment classes as well as having developed musical educational material for the Danish Broadcasting Corporation.

1st tenor
Kasper
Fonnesbæk Andersen

Kasper is a performer through and through who revels in the spotlight. This is evident when he, for instance, pours out his heart when he sky-rockets with the Disney classics as the lead singer in Luftens Helte. With his degree in musicology, Kasper works as the organist in Mårslet Church and also teaches singing.

2nd tenor
Gustav
Andreas Berg

Gustav is a musical perfectionist who never settles for less than the best. He has a lot of musical understanding and is a big part of the creative processes. Beyond being a smooth tenor in SØNK, Gustav sings in Vocal Line and has been a stand-in with Postyr on several international tours. Furthermore, he is the current chairman of SYNG.

Bass
Jonas
Skovsbøll Knudsen

Jonas has perfect pitch and is able to tell the exact frequencies of musical notes without the need of musical instruments. He cares deeply about the harmonic details in SØNK and leaves nothing to coincidence. Jonas is the mind behind many of SØNK’s musical interpretations and responsible for the groovy basslines. Career-wise, Jonas works with financial management.

Beatbox
Peter Gomez

If you ever wondered where SØNK’s drum sounds come from, you need not wonder any more. Gomez is the man who makes the kick drum, snare and hihat sounds - entirely with his mouth. He is a walking, talking drum machine and an excellent vocalist to boot. Outside of SØNK, you can experience Gomez in the bands Ripples and De Sidste Bohemer.
